Amethyst is a purple-violet variety of macrocrystalline quartz, characterized by the evident formation of large and transparent single crystals. Its name derives from the Greek "améthystos" which means "not inebriated", motivated by the myth that this mineral prevented drunkenness.

Quartz is part of the trigonal system, it is characterized by hexagonal-based crystals with two rhombohedrons at the bases, its formation is hydrothermal, i.e. by the heating and dissolution of chemical elements which crystallize into quartz. The color that fades from the most delicate shades of lilac to intense purple is due to the bivalent iron. Amethyst has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

According to legends, amethyst is a mineral that stimulates spiritual awareness, coherence, strengthening the sense of justice and critical ability. Furthermore, it is said that its use proves useful in moments of sadness caused by damage or losses suffered.
