The word corundum is attributed to the origin of the ancient Sanskrit "kuruvinda" which would mean "very hard stone". Corundum crystallizes in the trigonal system, its crystalline habit is prismatic or bipyramidal. This is an allochromatic mineral, that is, if it is found pure, it is colorless. Its chemical composition derives from aluminum oxides (Al2O3)
The pink color is a consequence of traces of chromium.
