Amethyst is a variety of macrocrystalline quartz of purple-violet color, characterized by the evident formation of large and transparent single crystals. Its name derives from the Greek "améthystos" which means "not drunk", motivated by the myth that this mineral prevented drunkenness.
Quartz is part of the trigonal system, it is characterized by hexagonal-based crystals with two rhombohedrons at the base, its formation is hydrothermal, that is by heating and dissolving chemical elements that crystallize in quartz. The color that fades from the most delicate shades of lilac to intense purple is due to bivalent iron. Amethyst has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.
According to legends, amethyst is a mineral that stimulates spiritual awareness, coherence, strengthening the sense of justice and critical ability. Furthermore, it is not said that its use proves useful in moments of sadness caused by damage or losses suffered.
